folio is published annually by the University Scholars Programme of the National University of Singapore. By collecting the best student essays written in the writing courses of our programme, we would like to play a part in the development of a culture of writing as an integral part of student-centered education.
Our journal was established in 2002, and our inaugural issue collected essays written in 2000-2002. The current volume (7) contains a selection of essays from the academic year 2007-2008. Together the essays represent a variety of styles, genres, and topics; what they all share is an attempt to produce, rather than reproduce, knowledge, and to rethink the already thought. We are at the moment accepting submissions for volume 8, which will contain essays written in the course of the current academic year (2008-2009); it will appear in 2010.
