Instructions for Conference Week
Pick up reading packet for Unit 2 from the Coop copy area.
Read texts by Freud and Jung. Write extensively in your reading diary (go back to Handout 1, exercise A) and carefully mark any points that may be unclear. Our next class meeting (which will shorter than usual) on Thursday 20th/Friday 21st will be entirely devoted to clearing up doubts and uncertainties about the Freud text, and unless you come prepared with plenty of questions we will have nothing to do.
Pick up your draft with my responses on Tuesday 18th from the reception desk in the teacher-student area.
Book a time for your draft conference and mark it carefully in your calendar. If for any reason you have to cancel a conference, please e-mail me or call me at the office (874-8915). Please try not to do this unless you have a real emergency. Missed conferences count as absences.
Come to the conference with any questions about my comments and prepared to discuss you plans for revision.
Hand in the final revision of Essay 1 (the one that will be graded) on Monday 24th/ Tuesday 25th. Come to class with any questions you may have about the Jung reading. The greatest part of the meeting will be devoted to a discussion of the following questions.
What is the origin and function of dreams according to Freud? Do you find his argument convincing? Why or why not?
Please come prepared.
