About the USP residential college
In August 2011, the University Scholars Programme (USP) moved to our new premises in NUS University Town (UTown) and became a residential college. The USP residential college (RC) inhabits four purpose-built buildings that provide almost everything a student could ask for.
At the USP residential college, be prepared to:
- Immerse yourself in an intellectually stimulating environment
- Connect to a close-knit network of students, professors, and staff who live, work, and play together as one community
- Dine with your peers and professors whilst engaging in exciting debate
- Participate in a myriad of exciting sporting, social, and scholarly activities
- Enjoy easy access to a wide array of university facilities
- Be comforted to know that your "home" is within walking distance as your exciting day ends.
Located across the National University of Singapore (NUS) Kent Ridge campus, the USP RC is one of the first colleges in UTown that has integrated green concepts in master planning and building designs, providing students with a host of conducive and welcoming facilities to live and learn in.
The USP residential college community provides a stimulating environment for intellectual and personal growth, allowing for the USP experience to be intensely reinforced through the integration of curriculum, learning-beyond–the-classroom activities, and residential programmes.
The USP residential college houses 600 students and contains the administrative and faculty offices for USP and teaching classrooms. Housed also in the USP RC premises is the Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Programme.
USP students take modules at the college and follow the current USP curriculum. They are required to take eight multidisciplinary modules specially designed for USP students, including the Writing and Critical Thinking module and University Scholars Seminars. Students have various options to fulfill their USP curriculum requirements that include individual research with faculty mentors, and industrial and entrepreneurial attachments.
Students also get to participate in overseas programmes and exchanges with some of the best universities in the world. They are part of a closely-knitted community and network of USP alums, faculty, staff, and students.
As we build and develop the USP residential college, the present USP student lounge (aka Chatterbox) will continue to morph in its character at the ground floor location of the USP residential block. It is your space, your expression. Whether in the form of comments, poems, scribbles on the walls, or impromptu open mike sessions, lively debates or intellectual discussions, it adds zest to your student life. We will be in a community of like-minded intellectuals committed to making significant contributions to society. We will be the cradle for independent learning and creative ideas.
Come be part of this unique USP integrated learning and living – let’s define the USP residential college landscape together.
