Third Paper Assignment: Contribute to the Postcolonial Web
The final paper in Memory and Modernity gives you a chance to contribute
to the Postcolonial Web.
What you contribute is of course up to you, but it should be based on your assessment
of what materials the web needs. As you'll notice, for many Singaporean writers
there are no pages at all, and for others--like Philip Jeyaretnam--the coverage
is spotty. This assignment has two parts:
Keep in mind that although you'll need to write at a minimum 6-8 pages to satisfy
this assignment (you are free to write more), your contribution may be divided
up however you like--perhaps you'll want to write several shorter pieces on
different authors or different texts. The important thing--in addition, of course,
to writing clearly and paying close attention to the textual evidence supporting
your conclusions--is to pursue a topic that interests you. The scope for this
assignment is wide open: you might even consider a creative project, provided
it has an argumentative or critical component. Talk to me about possibilities.
