NUS-IN-YALE SUMMER PROGRAMME 2010

The application for NUS-in-Yale 2010 is now open. An important part of your NUS education is to have significant global experience, interacting with the best and brightest around the world. NUS-in-Yale gives NUS undergraduates an Ivy League experience during the Yale Summer Session. Through this five-week summer programme , ten selected NUS students will study and interact with Yale students. You will stay at Yale residential colleges and experience many aspects of Yale undergraduate life.
Course Information:
The program will start on 31 May and end on 2 July 2010. Students will select two modules within the broad focus areas of Economics, Politics and Philosophy, and Human Relations. The relevant modules will be made known later to selected students. The full course listing can be accessed via the link below. Note that the NUS-in-Yale programme only takes place during Session A.

Financial Assistance:
There will be a student grant to cover the expenses including fees, airfare, accommodation and visa. However, each student will have to co-pay SGD$2,000 to participate in this program.
Objectives :
We aim to have students sustain and amplify this Ivy League experience after their return to NUS.
USP students will further develop what they have learnt at Yale through supervised independent study as part of their USP Advanced Curriculum.
Eligibility :
This is open to 1st and 2nd Year students of USP and USP partner faculties (BIZ, FASS, FOE, FOS, SDE & SOC). Do note that priority will be given to Year 2 students.
For USP students, substitution credit will be given for one 1st tier USP module. The two modules taken at Yale may substitute for major/faculty requirements upon approval by the department or faculty; approval may be sought through the usual procedure for SEP module substitution.
Selection
Shortlisted students will be notified by the week of 22 February and are required to attend an interview in end February/ early March. Students who are unable to attend the interview will not be considered for selection.
Application
In support of the application please submit your CV and an essay of about 1000 words explaining why you are interested in the field of Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) OR Human Relations. This essay:
- Must be freshly written for this application and must not have been submitted previously;
- Must explain how your participation in the NUS-in-Yale Programme will further develop your interest in this field (compared to an exchange programme to other Universities in either the U.S. or elsewhere); and
- If possible, suggest how participation in the programme could benefit your future research projects (like ISMs, honours theses)on your return to NUS.
For the theme of PPE – the essay can focus on a specific field only (eg Politics)or it can be a combination (eg Politics and Economics)
