Venture Yunnan 2007

Venture Yunnan 2007 widens the scope of the previous Venture Expedition Projects by riding on a school improvement project (primary project) to carry out several concurrent secondary projects – education, community outreach, and cultural documentation projects.

A. School Improvement Project

  1. To facilitate in the upgrading works of an elementary school in a rural village of Zheng Kang County, Yunnan, China
    1. Upgrading the library facilities by providing additional book resources and shelves to provide an opportunity to inculcate the spirit of reading and learning amongst the underprivileged children
    2. Setting up a library catalogue and maintenance system to inculcate a sense of responsibility and discipline in the students
    3. Enhancing the library’s environment by refurbishing, cleaning and painting the library to provide a more conducive place for learning
    4. Improving the environment of classrooms and betterment of their facilities through the provision of desks and chairs
    5. Increasing the technological literacy of students through the contribution of computers

B. Education Project

  1. To conduct simple English lessons for the elementary students
  2. To conduct art therapy sessions for the elementary students
  3. To share knowledge of personal hygiene with the children
  4. To convey the message of anti-drug and anti-smoking through fun activities such as art competitions, and sports day

C. Community Outreach

  1. Visits will be made to the homes living in the community and goods in kind will be collected in Singapore and donated to the families

D. Cultural Documentation Project

  1. To develop a website resource that documents the way of life of the community in Zhen Kang County
  2. To document the service-learning experiences throughout the pre-, during , and post-expedition phases
  3. To put up expedition photographs and video-recordings of our on-site data-collection and expedition experiences
  4. To collate group journal entries of thoughts and reflections in a database at the end of each working day
