Destination Danang 2007
welcomes you to widen the horizons of hundreds of school children
Do you remember the days when you read classics like Alice in Wonderland or more adventurous stories like the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew? How about your favourite authors like Enid Blyton or Roald Dahl? Or even simple picture books that tell the story of Goldilocks or the Ugly Duckling? With books, our minds will be fueled with imagination: to live an exciting life in another world. How much fun we had!
For the children in Danang, Hue, Vietnam, books are in scarcity. There is no assess to libraries to anyone else beside teachers, and even they are subjected to pay thrice the cost of the price of a book if they lose it. Without this precious source of knowledge and creativity, many of the children are unable to progress much in education. Neither are they interested in learning without adequate resource to hold their attention.
This December, we hope to bring about a difference in Danang by embarking on Global Village Foundation's 'Mobile Libraries Project'. Christmas will arrive early in Danang as we will assist in the construction of portable libraries and filling them with books. The idea of the portable libraries is such that the books can be easily transported from a village to another so that children from any rural village will get an opportunity to open the door to a world of fantasy that the books can send them to. Permanent libraries will be set up in two schools, where refurbishment as well as plentiful of books are required. We also hope to improve the standards of English of the students through interesting games and role-plays, as well as to facilitate the learning of Science, Arts and Craft and Maths through demonstrations and hands-on activities.

As a Service Learning Youth Expedition Project, our participants will get to learn first-hand about Vietnamese culture through interactions with the locals. We hope to be more apt in Vietnamese culinary skills as well as handicraft making after an amazing three weeks in Danang.
We hope to have this project straight after our examinations, which means we would need to work on it starting in September, so that we can return to our loved ones in time for Christmas. The projected cost would be here and send it back to us at desdanang07@gmail.com before 23 August 2007 (Thursday). Any queries can also be directed at the email address or you can choose to talk to us through our contact numbers.
We await your earnest reply. (=
