About the Speakers
Prof. Ibrahim Abu-Rabi' is a Palestinian who was born in Nazareth, Galilee. He holds dual citizenship in the U. S. and Israel and has received degrees from Birzeit University (in Birzeit, West Bank, Palestine), the University of Cincinnati, and Temple University, Philadelphia. He is currently professor of Islamic Studies, Co-Director of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations at the Hartford Seminary and co-editor of the journal, The Muslim World. He has a special interest in the study and practice of interfaith dialogue between the Islamic and Christian religious traditions. He is fluent in Hebrew, Arabic, and English. His books include Intellectual Origins of Islamic Resurgence in the Modern Arab World (1996) and Contemporary Arab Thought: Studies in Post-1967 Arab Intellectual History (2003). He has also published articles and reviews in a variety of American, Middle Eastern and Indian journals.
Prof. Heidi Hadsell obtained her B.A. from University of California in Political Science in 1971. She did a Masters of Comparative Religion (with an emphasis on Christian Ethics) at Columbia University/Union Theological Seminary and a PhD on Social Ethics at the University of Southern California. Prof. Hadsell is currently the President of the Hartford Seminary and Professor of Social Ethics there. Her main areas of specialisation are Environmental Ethics, Social Ethics, and Globalisation & Ethics. Among her publications are Beyond Idealism, ed. with Robin Gurney and Lewis Mudge (Grand Rapids: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing, 2006) and “Experiencing the Holy, Sharing Our Faith,” in Zion’s Herald, Vol. 179, Issue 3, May/June 2005.
