Commencement Matters

Applicable to USP Class of 2010

Commencement 2010: Administrative Details

Starting from Commencement 2009, the university has made a special provision to allow USP graduands to attend the USP ceremony and the home faculty ceremony, and to be presented their degree on stage twice. This provision is applicable to graduands who fulfill all of the USP curriculum requirements as well as attain at least a Second Class Honours (Lower).

To facilitate the above provision made, the University has established the following guidelines:

Guidelines

1. For logistics purpose, all degree scrolls and complimentary transcripts for USP graduates will only be distributed at the USP ceremony.  For graduates who are not attending the USP ceremony, they will collect their documents from the Registrar’s Office (Level 4, Lee Kong Chian Wing, University Hall) after Commencement. This will be no earlier than from 14 July 2010 (2pm) onwards.  Collection instructions are published at http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/adminpolicy/degreescrolls.html. (Note: the degree is presented on stage only symbolically; the actual degree scroll, together with one copy of complimentary transcript, is given out off stage.)

2. At home faculty ceremonies:
a: USP graduates attending their home faculty ceremonies will be presented individually on stage, blending in with all other graduates of their cohort.   However they will not be given their degree scroll and transcript then; instead, they will collect them at the USP ceremony, or, if they do not attend the USP ceremony, they will collect them from the Registrar’s Office (Level 4, Lee Kong Chian Wing, University Hall) from 14 July 2010 (2pm) onwards.  Their USP status will only be recognized at the USP ceremony and there will not be any separate acknowledgment of that at any other ceremony.

b: Lower priority will have to be accorded to requests from USP graduates for additional invitation cards to their home faculty ceremonies.  This is to ensure that the needs of graduates for whom those are the one and only ceremony for which they are eligible to attend are equitably met first.

c: The seats assigned to USP graduates will not be in perfect running order with graduates in their same disciplines of study. They will have to be manually assigned to the USP graduates as a group, contingent on where it is most fitting logistically to have the USP graduates join in the queue to go up on stage.

The above guidelines are put in place due to logistical constraints as managing the Commencement requires massive coordination. Any inconvenience is regretted.
