Structure

The DDP requires NUS students to take a total of 200 modular credits (MC). For NUS students 120 credits will be earned at NUS and 80 credits will be earned at Waseda towards a Bachelor’s (Honours) degree from NUS and a Bachelor’s degree from Waseda. Waseda University offers a four-year degree programme without an Honours structure.

To be awarded an NUS degree, both NUS and Waseda students have to satisfy minimum requirements for the grades received in NUS modules and the credits (but not grades) earned in Waseda modules.

The credit requirements for NUS students to earn the NUS degree is indicated below:

NUS students will spend 2 years at Waseda, during their 3rd and 5th year of study. An NUS student must satisfy the equivalent of 160 MCs to graduate with a NUS Bachelor’s (Honours) degree. Of the total 160 MCs, 120 MCs will be read in NUS in Year 1, Year 2, and Year 4, and 40 MCs will be double-counted Waseda credits earned in Year 3. The distribution of these credits is indicated in the Table A. The 40 MCs earned at Waseda in Year 5 will not be used to satisfy NUS degree requirements.

The major and faculty requirements for each major, as listed in the NUS Bulletin, will be satisfied through the 120 MCs read in NUS along with some modules read in Year 3 at Waseda that are mapped back to major and faculty requirements at NUS. Programme approval will be required prior to the student taking such modules at Waseda.

The grading and classification of the Bachelor’s (Honours) degree at NUS will be based upon the 120 credits earned at NUS and credit (not grade) transfer for the 40 credits earned in Waseda in Year 3.

NUS students are required to take 16 credits of Intensive Japanese, 8 credits during Year 3 and 8 credits during Year 5.
