Group Project
This assignment is to be done in groups of 4 to 5 students. This project enables you to:
(a) experience human relations in a real and meaningful way;
(b) document these experiences;
(c) analyze these experiences using the concepts and theories on cognition, attitudes and values that you have learnt in class.
For this project, you are required to identify a particular registered charity which has institution of a public character (IPC) status. (Please take a look at www.charities.gov.sg for a list of registered charities with IPC status). Once you have identified the specific charity, you are required to organize an activity/event or a series of activities/events that benefits the charity and/or its beneficiaries. Examples of such activities/events include:
(a) picnics or parties for the beneficiaries;
(b) social activities for the beneficiaries;
(c) visits to places of interest for the beneficiaries;
(d) fun-fairs, carnivals or bazaars to raise funds for the charity;
(e) sports or arts events to raise funds for the charity;
(f) collection of used items to raise funds for the charity;
(g) manning of booths that sell crafts produced by the beneficiaries;
(h) promoting public awareness of the charity’s causes and/or programs.
You are required to produce a 10-minute video to document the activities or events that you have organized. The video should also indicate the positive impact of the activities/events on the beneficiaries and/or the charity, as well as capture your reflections on your learning outcomes.
In addition, you are required to submit a 6-page report that analyzes the human relations you have experienced and observed while organizing the activities/events. In particular, your analysis should apply the concepts and theories on cognition, attitudes and values that you have learnt in class. The report should be typed double-spaced, with 1-inch margins all around and with a font size of 12.
This group project is worth 30% of your marks for this module. Specifically, the video accounts for 15% and the report accounts for the other 15%.
The video and report should be handed to your tutor on Thursday, November 11, 2010
