Integrating values, attitudes & social cognition

Towards an integrative model of human behavior

  • Cognitive antecedents of behavior

    • prototype: typical summary representation of person type
    • schema: organized knowledge about specific domain of person or person type
    • script: organized knowledge describing sequence of events in specific situation
    • heuristic: rule to form judgment quickly, effortlessly
    • self-schema: organized knowledge about specific domain of self
    • self-complexity: thinking about self in many ways
    • self-efficacy: belief about self's ability to perform particular task
    • stereotype: negative beliefs about attributes of specific outgroup
    • value: belief that specific behavior or end-state is preferable
