About USP > Our Vision and Mission
Our Vision

To be an open and dynamic learning community, in which students become self-motivated, independent, informed, thoughtful, and socially responsive.

Our Mission

To help able students learn to think and to do, both as supporters and leaders, in order to realize their full potential as individuals and as members of society

The USP mission has two complementary elements:

A distinctive and forward-looking education, which emphasizes and exemplifies breadth, questioning, connections, creativity and exploration; and

A diverse and scholarly residential community, which both nurtures its own members and engages in different ways with others in NUS, Singapore and the world.

Strategy

The six key components of the USP strategy are:

  1. To attract and support dynamic faculty and staff committed to our community and to USP's work of developing students

  2. To recruit independent, self-driven students with academic and personal potential, who want to seek intellectual challenges within and beyond the curriculum, and to contribute to society

  3. To offer an educational programme which enhances and complements partner faculty curricula with innovative, multidisciplinary, enquiry-led, small group teaching

  4. To develop residential activities, which encourage breadth, open-mindedness and critical thinking, through reading, conversation, and interaction with people of different kinds and from different backgrounds.

  5. To build a community which fosters strong ties among members and close relations with others, and which allows students to understand, set and pursue their own goals

  6. To offer a range of opportunities which help students become sensitive to, and familiar with, the modern world by initiating, leading and joining international academic and community programmes and projects
